Commercial Finance Analyst

Your role is pivotal in analysing product performance to drive our Stores and Online platforms towards achieving sales, margin, and inventory targets. Your responsibilities include generating insightful management information for informed decision-making and contributing to setting ambitious yet achievable business plans to fulfil our goals.

Based at Junction 41 in Wakefield, with free parking and a flexible, hybrid way of working, this is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact in our team. Colleagues are required to work in the office for a minimum of 2/3 days per week, with the expectation of additional attendance when needed.
Role Responsibility
- Ensure visibility and understanding of accurate financial and non-financial KPIs daily, weekly and monthly. KPIs include sales value and volumes, price, margin, space across our Card and Non-Card products, postage or fulfilment costs
- In collaboration with IT, develop the reporting information available by the business via our automated BI platform
- Support the Finance Business Partner to produce financial forecasts and budgets that deliver the business strategy
- Work closely with the Commercial team to capture and review inputs, risks and opportunities
- Responsible for providing accurate information to stakeholders at month end and on an ad hoc basis
- Perform variance analysis of sales, gross profit and stock to help the business learn from past actions and identify new opportunities
- Monitor and analyse trial performance, working with project teams to understand the commercial performance
- Support Finance Business Partner with preparing financial reviews and analysis to support decision-making
- Business partnering, work closely with the Commercial team as Finance Analyst to understand ‘Why’ and ‘So What’ to drive actions and improvements for both Stores and Online
The Ideal Candidate
- Qualified / Part-qualified accountant who is commercially minded and has a desire to add value
- Commercial background gained through a commercial role in industry, or an assurance / advisory role in a large professional services organisation
- Intellectual curiosity to understand the financial and non-financial drivers of the business and their implications
- Proven and demonstrable ability to build productive business relationships with a wide network of finance and non-finance colleagues, and manage workload according to priorities
- Excellent verbal and written communication styles and confidence to influence a variety of senior stakeholders
- Desire to bring insight and challenge to the business through the use of data to improve revenue and profitability
- Excellent analytical and Excel skills, and a desire to proactively adopt and use business insight platforms such as Power BI (experience of Power BI would be a significant advantage)
- Passionate about being part of a culture where continuous improvement is delivered
- Proactive and takes pride in output / robustness of financial analysis
- The tenacity to work through details and deliver rigorous and meaningful insight
- Anaplan experience is desired
