Cyber Security Analyst

Job Purpose:  

The Cyber Security Analyst's role is to provide assurance that business-wide IT systems are managed in line with compliance or governance requirements. Working as part of the Cyber Security Team, the Analyst will provide proactive security, reactive security, and enable security change. Analysts detect, assess, and treat security risks using their technical knowledge or tools. The Analyst is to cross-function engage with the wider IT Team where significant change is required.  

Role Responsibility

  • Conduct proactive security to reduce the likelihood of security incidents, including:  

  • Risk register reviews, vulnerability scans, threat monitoring.  

  • Security tool audits antivirus, patch management, password strength, log reviews.  

  • Phishing simulations, security awareness, and training.  

  • Framework gap analysis, penetration tests, audits, and reviews.   

  • Conduct reactive security to manage incidents in a timely and appropriate manner, including:  

    • Antivirus, network, or SIEM alerts.  
    • Phishing incidents.  
    • Other security incidents.  
  • Enable security initiatives and change to improve overall business security levels.  

  • Diplomatically engage with the wider IT Team to deliver change.  

  • Support projects or enabling 3rd parties to provide security assurance.  

  • Respond to business security support requests in a timely, clear, and appropriate format.  

  • Maintain industry security knowledge and remain abreast of pertinent developments.  

The Ideal Candidate

  • Knowledge of technical security assurance including networks, web applications, cloud environments, firewalls, development, projects, antivirus, Active Directory , etc.  

  • Knowledge of vulnerability analysis tools.  

  • Knowledge of phishing simulation tools.  

  • Able to manage relationships with wider IT Team, non-technical stakeholders, and supporting 3rd parties.  

  • Motivated, energetic and enthusiastic with the ability to solve problems by known or new solutions. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.  

  • Well organised and able to apply attention to detail.  

 
Desired Experience:  

  • Experience working in IT or security within technical roles.  

  • Experience working in the retail sector.  

  • Experience supporting both routine tasks and project/change.  

  • Qualifications are not mandatory but desired. IT technical qualifications:  

  • Security qualifications (CISSP, CISM, etc.).  

  • Assurance qualifications (ISO 27001 LA/LI).  

  • Business qualifications (Risk Management, GDPR, PCI DSS).  

  • The Security Analyst will have the opportunity to develop their skills and qualifications internally.  

 This role is very flexible as the tasks are varied. Travel between business sites may be required at times. This role is flexible in terms of location and whilst there is no formal requirement to be office-based, attendance will be required at times as dictated by the needs of the project(s) or the function. The jobholder must maintain confidentiality and respect of personal information at all times due to the nature of the work.
