EUC Operating System Engineer

Exciting news! Our IT team is looking for an experienced and dedicated EUC Operating System Engineer to join our End User Computing (EUC) team. You will focus on the build and maintenance of the organization’s computing environment. The ideal candidate will take a proactive role in owning and optimizing the deployment of our operating systems, with a special emphasis on Point of Sale (POS) systems.. The position is based at Junction 41 in Wakefield, just off the M1, with free parking, and offers a flexible, hybrid way of working. However, all colleagues are required to work in the office for a minimum of 1 to 2 days per week, with the expectation of added attendance when needed.
Role Responsibility
- Oversee standardisation of POS and device images within the organisation.
- Manage deployment, configuration, and maintenance of Linux and Windows systems, ensuring performance.
- Apply updates and security measures to protect system integrity and confidentiality, in collaboration with partners.
- Ensure POS hardware standards are met with the help of Store Tech Teams and Integrate new hardware with IT Teams and support partners, ensuring compatibility.
- Monitor and tune OS performance to meet business needs during peak hours.
- Keep detailed documentation of OS configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting.
- Resolve operating system issues according to SLAs, documenting progress and collaborating as needed.
- Assist EUC Team with hardware builds and configurations during high demand, adhering to IT policies.
- Guide and train EUC Team to enhance knowledge on POS issues, OS image maintenance, and POS/PC systems and software for superior support.
- Create SOPs for knowledge sharing, using best documentation practices.
The Ideal Candidate
- Linux OS administration in retail
- Linux configuration/management in POS systems
- Experience with tools like Ubuntu Landscape, Quest KACE, Microsoft Deployment Toolkit
- Knowledge of POS/PC hardware
- Understanding of retail security protocols (PCI DSS, CIS20)
- Technical support for POS systems
- Strong communication skills; training capabilities and effective time management and prioritisation
- Basic networking skills (LAN/WAN/VPN)
- Experience in an ITIL environment
