Head of Foundation
Job Introduction
The Card Factory Foundation was set up in 2018 as the corporate foundation of Card Factory with a generous annual income from sales of their single use plastic bag. The Foundation’s purpose is to make a positive difference for past and present colleagues of Card Factory, their families, and the communities where they live and work. The Foundation is overseen by our friendly, supportive and committed Board of six Trustees, and the grants programme is run by our wonderful Foundation Administrator. Five years into our journey, we’re keen to bring in someone fabulous to lead us into the next chapter.
We’re looking for a talented Head of Foundation to run Card Factory Foundation. The right person will share our passion for helping families and communities in the UK and will relish the challenge of getting Card Factory colleagues engaged in the Foundation’s work. You will work with our Board to set our strategy, oversee the re-design of our grants programme, ensure the charity is effectively and efficiently run and lead on raising our profile.
Role Responsibility
- achieve the greatest possible impact with our annual budget of around £1.8m
- develop and implement our strategic plan and annual budget and activity plans
- oversee the re-design of our UK grants programme
- monitor and communicate the impact of our funding
- report on progress against plans and recommend improvements
- support the Trustee Board, from managing recruitment and induction of new Board members to organising regular Board Meetings to gain approval for your recommendations
- manage the relationship with our donor Card Factory to engage colleagues at all levels across the UK and ROI through matched giving, fundraising efforts and other opportunities to create excitement and support for our work
- raise the foundation’s external profile through our website and social media, and support our donor, Card Factory, to talk more about the foundation
- ensure effective and responsible management of our funds, including preparation of annual accounts and overseeing the audit
- comply with all charity regulations and annual reporting requirements
- create and maintain appropriate policies and processes for the smooth running of the foundation
- manage and support our Foundation Administrator, and recruit and manage any additional foundation colleagues as agreed with Board
The Ideal Candidate
You will definitely:
- be an experienced grant partnership manager with deep knowledge of and connections in the UK and ROI charity sectors
- be resilient, flexible and well organised, enjoy working autonomously and thrive on setting your own direction
- be a creative and analytical thinker who can develop, deliver and promote our strategy, assess our performance and identify improvements
- be an inspiring and supportive leader, who works collaboratively
- have proven influencing skills at senior level
- have excellent written and verbal communication skills
- be an authentic and inspiring ambassador for the foundation
- have worked in or with a business and be comfortable working cross-functionally in a corporate environment to influence a variety of stakeholders
Ideally, you will also have one or more of the following:
- financial management experience to manage a multi-million pound budget, comfortable maintaining management accounts and managing internal financial controls
- charity governance experience to meet Charity Commission requirements
- experience of selecting and implementing a new grant management platform
- experience of managing or advising employee hardship / benevolent funds
