Quality Control and Technical Manager

We are looking for an experienced Quality Control and Technical Manager to lead the Product Assurance team for product, ethical and environmental compliance.

You will be responsible for managing all the technical and compliance areas across the business, including overseeing, and documenting all product testing, and managing the technical and ethical supplier audits. You will also take the lead in a drive towards further sustainability, looking at and improving the eco credentials of products and materials. You will also ensure that all processes meet safety, legal and other national or international standards. Ideally this person would have technical compliance experience from a Retail Environment.

Role Responsibility

  • To support the sourcing strategy for products in relation to supplier audits and quality control checks;
  • Responsible for the technical and ethical audits of suppliers, ensuring the corrective action points from the audits are carried out to improve compliance;
  • Responsible for third party inspections of products, and in-house product inspections, to obtain quality control reports;
  • Implement changes to Company policy, procedure and process to ensure compliance with legislation and regulations (e.g. supplier on-boarding, recall process, FSC, HACCP);
  • Ensure all QC and technical work can be achieved in line with the critical date path either through in house teams or outsourcing;
  • Oversee investigations into faulty products and customer complaints to ensure effective solutions and improvements are made;
  • Be responsible for ensuring supplier certification and compliance documents are up to date;
  • Ensure reporting compliance on WEEE/Battery;
  • Manage Poison Centre Notifications and UFI labelling process;
  • Manage UK & EU REACH registrations with third party;
  • Be an ambassador for ESG on the commercial team, by encouraging sustainability across product and packaging;
  • Lead FSC certification in the company;
  • Monitor legislation and standards to and take actions to implement changes ahead of implementation dates;
  • Manage third party contracts across consultancy and services.

 

Core Accountabilities / Measures of Success

  • Reduction of Service provider costs
  • Review Current FSC process
  • Review QC function and the new ERP system.
  • QC Range Check & Sign-off
  • Implement a Red and Gold Seal process.
  • ESG – Reduction on plastic packaging

The Ideal Candidate

  • Excellent communication and listening skills in order to deal with numerous suppliers in different time zones.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Experience working at a manager level within a QC / QA role with a team of direct reports;
  • Keep up to date with new Trading Standards legislation which affects products, and new legislation which affects the supply chain;
  • Knowledge of CLP, HACCP, FSC, UKTR/EUTR, REACH, Modern Slavery, HACCP, Cosmetics.
