Sustainability Manager

Following the launch of our ambitious new This Moment sustainability programme and supporting plan, we are recruiting for the new role of Sustainability Manager. The successful candidate will drive forward our sustainability strategy, implement our environmental plans and help to embed sustainability across the cardfactory business.

With an initial focus on delivering environmental initiatives alongside oversight of the entire sustainability plan, the Sustainability Manager will play a critical role in galvanising action across our whole business.

This is cardfactory’s first dedicated sustainability role, providing the successful candidate with a unique opportunity to shape and develop our approach as we work to make cardfactory a truly sustainable business. Our sustainability manager will report into the strategic lead on sustainability at cardfactory with a dotted line into our Chief Commercial Officer.
At cardfactory, we operate a smart working policy, allowing you to work from home some days and at our Head Office in Wakefield 2/3 days a week in line with business needs.

Role Responsibility
- Lead implementation of our Sustainability Strategy, project managing workstreams across our business.
- Proactively seek pioneering solutions to sustainability challenges including waste reduction, circularity and supply chain engagement.
- Collaborate with colleagues across cardfactory to inform and engage them in our sustainability plans.
- Provide in-depth subject matter knowledge in the field of environmental sustainability.
- Lead delivery of our environmental commitments, including our Net Zero targets and emissions reduction roadmap, and waste & circularity.
- Work with colleagues across the business to embed sustainability considerations across our operations and stores, and align suppliers to our sustainability goals.
- Identify sustainability-related risks, and opportunities for value creation and return on investment on an ongoing basis, making recommendations for how these should be addressed within cardfactory plans.
- Develop sustainability KPIs and performance dashboard, and implement a cross-organisation sustainability performance monitoring programme to track data and ensure it is auditable and aligns with our sustainability strategy.
- Coordinate and deliver high quality internal and external sustainability reporting, including Board and Executive team updates, and overseeing relevant annual report content, including TCFD and other mandatory disclosures.
- Track mandatory reporting and disclosure developments and best practice frameworks and ensure cardfactory remains compliant with all requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful embedding of sustainability across the whole organisation.
- Work with colleagues in cardfactory’s Communications and People teams to build a positive internal and external profile for our sustainability work, engage stakeholders and manage reputation.
- Coordinate and lead input from external consultants.
The Ideal Candidate
- Relevant qualification or equivalent business experience in sustainability is required
- A depth of knowledge and passion for sustainability, with subject matter expertise in a range of environmental areas including Net Zero pathways and Waste & Circularity.
- A proactive and confident self-starter with a strong ownership mind-set, who is not afraid to jump into projects and build their understanding ‘on-the-go’.
- Excellent stakeholder management and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to influence and secure buy-in.
- Demonstrable experience of leading sustainability change in complex environments.
- Experience of developing and tracking sustainability performance indicators, along with sustainability data management and analysis.
- Understanding of regulatory and reporting requirements.
- Ability to lead and inspire others.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
