About the job
We’re looking for a Merchandise Planner to help deliver our category plans, optimise stock, and drive commercial performance through data‑led decision making. This is a hybrid role combining some days working from home and some at our head office based in Wakefield, with great links to the M1 and free parking.
What you’ll do
- Own the range‑building process for your categories in collaboration with Buying, Space Range & Display, and Design – analysing performance, proposing range changes, forecasting new line ROS, and preparing financial rollups for sign‑off.
- Build and reforecast the monthly WSSI, presenting updates and ensuring clear visibility of risks, opportunities and required trading actions.
- Review and sign off weekly Line Card order proposals with the Assistant Merchandise Planner, adjusting target cover in line with WSSI and identifying any critical availability issues.
- Liaise with suppliers, warehouse and logistics to maximise on‑time, in‑full delivery and ensure order accuracy.
- Analyse daily and weekly trading performance, preparing and presenting insight in team trade meetings.
- Propose trading actions to achieve sales, margin, stock and sell‑through targets, modelling scenarios and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to land actions first time.
- Support the annual sales and stock budget build, ensuring plans reflect category strategy.
- Identify trends, insights and market learnings to inform future trading decisions.
- Guide and mentor Assistant Merchandise Planners and Allocators to support their development.
What you’ll bring
- Strong analytical capability and commercial curiosity.
- Experience in merchandising, supply chain, planning or a similar commercial role.
- Confidence interpreting trading trends and turning insights into clear actions.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence across functions.
- A structured, proactive approach and the ability to work at pace.
